Ilya Ziblat (1975) is a composer and a performer (bass / electronics).
His music relates to both composition and improvisation. He creates works for other musicians and groups, or as being involved himself as a performer. Most of his works are for instruments in combination with electronics.
His main interest is how musical freedom could be expressed within- and triggered by- composed structures. He has collaborated in various projects together with dance and choreography, (live) video art, film and visual art.
Ilya plays contrabass and bass guitar both as an improvisor, and as a performer focusing on a repertoire of contemporary composed works.
After studying composition and contrabass in Tel Aviv University, he continued to the Netherlands to study at the Royal Conservatory, the Hague. Currently working towards a PhD in artistic research (Leiden University / Orpheus Institute).
